Polynesian Dream is a mix of lush layered samples and live instruments that marks the third instrumental release from the talented Canadian producer AstroLogical, while illustrating his advancement from his preceding albums Living Fossils and Far Far Away.
Unlike many current cut and paste styles common in the hip hop inspired instrumental landscape, AstroLogical uses his formal training to show a musical sense of melody and progression.
Elements of hip hop, jazz and ambient styles meet in dreamy grooves creating a loungy feel. Tracks are filled with Rhodes, thick bass lines and the use of his own vocals resulting in a distinct polished sound that AstroLogical can call his own.
Continuing with a steady pace of releases Polynesian Dream is the first of 2 EPs with the second, Flux EP due out November 2011.

NAZZA
Published in 2011 on the Summer Solstice, Nazza is Slippery Elm’s first book of poetry. With a deep sense for rhythm and the musicality of words, Slippery builds upon the inspirited, extemporaneous poetry of oral traditions, delivering outpourings of desire, magic, and passion, that make stars spin and flowers bloom. Floating under the Snake of Time, disappearing into otherworldly puddles, pan-piping in thunderstorms, facilitating weddings in old growth forests, blockading oil-tankers with guardians of the sea, feeling the Itch of poison industry canal-side in Amsterdam, voicing tree-house desire, inking your soul with a love tattoo, summoning the trees, singing the Songs of Crocus & song-of-songs passion outbursts through lion eyes, meditating on the seasons, canoeing across the stars, hurling messages beyond the ninth wave to far-off Love, natural Death, and years to come, it is Slippery Elm’s call for social change, and his energetic offering to the creative forces of the Universe. Included inside are the lyrics to his acclaimed jazz hip-hop album Milky Ways & Other Slippery Galactic Phenomena.
“Nazza is a collection filled with poems of sensuality and wildness cut with a sharp, urban edge. Primal, pagan, and ecstatic, they express a sense of place and the energy of youth. Here are poems to chant by firesides and read under cedars in the rain.” — Erynn Rowan Laurie, author of Ogam: Weaving Word Wisdom
“Slippery Elm’s Nazza poems rise up from a wild, more-than-human place. This verse is not just about nature, but rather from nature, informed inside the breathing complexity of life, in the tradition of great naturalist poetic sensibility from Basho to Whitman, Susan Griffin, and beyond. These poems arrive as wake up calls from that deep place where Earth and spirit are one.” — Rex Weyler, author of Greenpeace: The Inside Story
The latest EP from the Vancouver duo Slippery Elm & AstroLogical, “Concrete Honey”, has finally arrived here on Jellyfish Recordings for free download. As with their previous musical endeavor, “Milky Ways“, AstroLogical provides the musical backdrop for Slippery Elms’ poetic lyricism.
The title “Concrete Honey” balances two starkly contrasting images. This juxtaposition reflects the vibe that the two achieve with the album — urban, hard-hitting, raw, yet still smooth and organic. These beats are thick, syrupy, and golden. Their last project, Milky Ways, was a night time album. This album is about the Sun, plants blooming, vines snaking up brick walls, block parties, and summer time in Vancouver. Concrete Honey is the Nectar of the Metropolis.
